Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Online Examination for the Post of Stenographer Grace ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’ every year. This recruitment is for posts at Ministries/ Departments of Central Government and Subordinate/ Attached offices in other Parts of the country. The exam will be conduct on June/ July. Here we are providing you some important details of the exam which might be helpful in the later stages of the recruitment process and some important strategy to crack the exam.

Vacancies of Stenographer Grade – C: –   are in Ministries/ Departments of Central Government, located mostly in Delhi.

Vacancies on Stenographer Grade – D: –   are grouped as under:

  1. Group ‘X’ – For Ministries/ Department of Central Government located mostly in Delhi.
  2. Group ‘Y’ – For Offices/ Departments of Central Government including Attached/ Subordinate offices located in States and Union Territories all over the country.

How to Prepare for SSC Stenographer Exam : – 

SSC Stenographer Exam Patten: –   This is a written exam with an objective type paper, divided into three different sections.

  • The Paper will be set in both English and Hindi (Except Part III)
  • Negative Marking of 0.25 marks will be done for every incorrect answer.

  • You must have a pre-plan as to how much time they are going to devote a particular section.
  • For better time management and also to get the thrust of the examination, you must solve previous year question papers.
  • You must first begin with the questions of that section at which they are likely to score the most.
  • You must not waste time over the answer you are not sure with instead you must move to the next question.
  • The ideal time required to solve the section can be 20 minutes for General Awareness, 35 minutes for General Intelligence & Reasoning and 65 Minutes for English Language & Comprehension. But the time depends upon the level to difficult of the paper.

Strategy to Score Well in SSC Stenographer Exam: – 

  • SSC repeats question over the years with same digits. Some questions might look familiar and such question will save y our time during the exam. Remember that the one second you save will enable you to encircle one extra question, which might be the turning point of your career.
  • Plant beforehand the way you will attempt the paper i.e. make a strategy of attempting the paper and stick to it in the exam hall.
  • In the Examination hall make strategy according to y our preparation. Take that section which is your strength & less time taking.
  • To score good in English Language section of SSC Stenographer Exam on e can mug up all the one word substitutions, Idioms and phrases and vocabulary form the previous year books.
  • Never skip the comprehension part, the passage are easy and can be scored off quickly.
  • Try to Study at least 10 new English words daily. Note down the Meaning and example of each word you find unfamiliar or difficult to remember.
  • To Score good in reasoning section of SSC Stenographer Exam, always Remember that the given questions will be solved by the data given only, don’t make unnecessary assumptions or judgment while solving the problem. Use smart and appropriate solving and problem.
  • Reasoning Problems takes more time than other sections, hence time constraint must be kept in mind while attempting this section.
  • To Score good in general awareness section of SSC Stenographer Exam one should thoroughly to through the last year’s question so that you can score well in the exam.
  • Another great option to prepare GK well is to go through magazines that focus General Knowledge. Some of the useful magazines are Pratiyogita Darpan and Manorma. Objective Lucent can also be referred to score well.
  • Pay attention toward time during solving questions. By rigorous practice one can do quant more quickly and with complete accuracy.
  • Read newspapers daily. This habit will help you in two subjects, viz. General Awareness and English Comprehension.
  • Once Syllabus is covered go for revision as many times as possible with constant evaluation of your standard by solving previous question paper after each revision.
  • If a question is not known or time taking or doubtful better go for the next and return to if after you answer all the know ones.
  • If you are not sure of some answer or its is out of your knowledge to answer any question, better don’t answer to avoid negative marks.

Important Points: –

  • The Skill Test is of qualifying nature.
  • There is no exemption from skill test for Steno for any category of candidates.
  • Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.
  • VH Candidates will be required to transcribe the matter in 75 minute for English Shorthand or in 100 Minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the Post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’ and in 70 minutes for English Shorthand Test and in 95 minutes for Hindi Shorthand Test for the Post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’.
